The central part of our Milky Way Galaxy is one of the most dramatic regions of the sky, but dust clouds obscure the view. In this zoom sequence we start with a spectacular panorama of the entire region in visible light. As we close in on the center we shift to the VISTA infrared image and can penetrate most of the dust and see huge numbers of hidden stars.

A new telescope — VISTA (the Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy) — has just started work at ESO's Paranal Observatory and has made its first release of pictures. VISTA is a survey telescope working at infrared wavelengths and is the world's largest telescope dedicated to mapping the sky. Its large mirror, wide field of view and very sensitive detectors will reveal a completely new view of the southern sky. Spectacular new images of the Flame Nebula, the center of our Milky Way galaxy and the Fornax Galaxy Cluster show that it is working extremely well.

  • here my question...someone please answer: if we reside in the MW galaxy and our galaxy is 200k Lightyrs across....then how is it possible to have a 3D panoramic photograph of the entire galaxy if we havent even left our solar system? In my oppinion, i feelthis is all speculation. How can it be any of these findings be relevant without God, his Son, Good Spirits, bad spirits, other physical beings? What is a black hole really? What if its nothing more than a devine portal.

  • @REV7verse9 - this panoramic photograph of our galaxy was taken over the course of a year from places in both the northern and southern hemisphere. All the images were stitched together to form a complete 360° view of the sky. I suggest you take a visit to a dark location far out in the country away from city lights and take a look in the direction of Sagittarius (the center of our galaxy), and you'll see this view for yourself. =)

  • Hey!

Your movies are great. After watching them I feel like I'm very very small part of the universe, even... nothing :D.

    5 Stars.

  • Think of a bacteria on a grain of sand on a beach on the other side of the world... that's how we are to the universe. Then again, that bacteria is part of this world; likewise, we're still part of the greater universe, no matter how small we are. :-)

  • If this is legit then holy Jesus shit this is awesome!

  • Indeed this is legit. The Milky Way image is a composite of hundreds of photographs taken from around the world... and the zoomed-in photo of the center of the galaxy is taken from an observatory in Chile. All the videos I post on my channel are the real thing or visualizations of the real thing based on current knowledge. :-)
