On our ranges in the Marine Corps, 200 yds is our closest target. Our furthest target we are trained to hit, with iron sights and from the prone position, is 500 yds.

Seems like your target was the power company support structure was your target. - I'm thinking the power company won't appreciate the hole or dent/degradation of the coating in their support pole. The coating is what gives the support its design life. - It would have been a much better shot if it had been a victimless target, or a wild game shot. - Wild game is natural. An animal shot for food harvest is of great value. Some pest and bad, need to be removed also.
Just my opinion.

250 Yd at a metal plate is easy. Try a standard 50-round AR-15 service rifle match. It consists of 200 yd slow-fire standing 13 in black (10 shots in 10 min) & rapid-fire sitting (10 shots /w mag chg 60 sec), 300 yd rapid-fire prone 18 in black (10 shots /w mag chg 70 sec), and 600 yd slow-fire prone 36 in black (20 shots 20 min). Then try keeping all the shots in the black. Then go to Camp Perry for the National Trophy Matches in August.

@prancelee try from prone or bench on paper so you can see where your shots land youmay not besighted in correctly. if they land off adjust sights acordingly
