@dunning1977 Yea, live in the past, its a good place. I used too listen to this while travelling on the bus from Glasgow to Dundee to see friends that I dont know now. Sometimes, I used to have no cash for the bus and would hitch. I had my music to keep me going when I couldnt get a lift or I got a lift from the freaks on the road. No I-pod, just a bag full of half used batteries to keep the personal stereo going. I would reach glasgow and want to share my music.

This cover is awful. David McWilliams charted #2 in France in 1967 and... nowhere in UK. It was one of my favourite songs of my teenage years. Marc Almond slaughtered it :-(

@Scherkraft That's right - but what a cover!

@TheVaughan5 it is just a cover... ;)

Only 137,000 views for this. Shows how many dickheads are out there - this is brilliant.
Justin Bieber anyone? - no thanks.

If anyone is interested, I've just bought 'Tenement Symphony' from Amazon on CD, just over £5.00 inc p&p!

David McWilliams of course deserves the credit for writing the music but this version by Marc Almond is for me the classic, the backing is more sophisticated and I love the extra verse he adds at the end.

I absolutely love this song and wish you could download it. Had it on my Now22 Tape back in 1992 and it brings me back to times when I use to go to the coast every weekend down to the caravan to see friends - happy times. Then you grow up and life doesn't half get tougher. Just hearing this has brought me back to my youth and good times - I shouldn't live in the past I suppose.

This version is simply stunning: groovy, romantic, and Marc sounds lighter than usual, in a good way
