Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL): No Is Not A Solution

A group of Democratic lawmakers went to the House floor this morning to call out congressional Republicans for their hypocrisy on Medicare, failing to make good on their promises to introduce an official health reform bill and for continuing to try to kill reform.

Despite the fact that Republican leadership promised their own health reform bill months ago, they still have yet to support or introduce their own official alternative bill. Their ongoing attacks have made it clear what their real health reform plan is: to defend the status quo at the expense of American families, small businesses and our nations fiscal health.

The only reform Health care needs is to get government OUT of it altogether. Government has NO authority to meddle in our health affairs and this is a gross misuse of your powers.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said that the individual health insurance mandates included in every health reform bill, which require Americans to have insurance, were like paying taxes. He added that Congress has broad authority to force Americans to purchase other things as well, so long as it was trying to promote the general welfare".
