Smith and Wesson 22 Military and Police (M&P22) Pistol, chambered in .22LR rimfire. This is a range review, I fired approx 150 rounds of CCI Mini-Mag 40 grain, and Federal Value Pack. This pistol function perfect, I had no jams or problems of any type.

Summary of what I am saying in the video:
I fired CCI mini mags, and Federal Value Pack, the gun was fine with both, no problems. The magazine holds 12 rounds. The magazine is easy to load by hand, the spring tension is easy to operate. After the range session, I did a field-strip and cleaning: I did not notice any metal shavings or wear patterns, everything looked okay. Some people on-line have asked me to try different types of ammo, but I only have these two types of ammo on-hand (CCI and Federal). I've had problems in previous rimfire firearms with Remington Golden Bullet and Winchester 333, so I don't buy them anymore. I fire the M&P .22 with the M&P 9mm and show a side-by-side shooting comparison.
Comparing the 3 firearms side-by-size: Ruger 22/45, M&P 22, and M&P 9 Pro. It's only been 150 rounds but the trigger on the M&P 22 takes a bit more force, it is a clean break but is heavier than the M&P Pro trigger.
I'm very satisfied with this firearm, especially that it was new and ran without any jams or problems right out-of-the-box.I had to adjust my point-of-aim on the M&P 22 vs my M&P 9mm, one needs to hold at he top of the metal plate and another needs to hold at the bottom of the plate. But I can adjust he sights so I can make them both the same if I want.
One more thing, I found that the included wrench fits the slots at the front of the barrel. This may be a bushing that is removable to reveal threads on the barrel? I don't know the instruction manual doesn't say.

Other stuff I forgot to say in the video:
The safety lever is junk, I didn't use it the whole time at the range just left it off. The thumb-safety lever is rubbery and bends easily, and the detent is stiff.

  • The barrel is threaded M8x.75. The wrench is used to remove the thread protector. It will not remove the barrel.

  • @jbsegrest Actually, yes it will remove the barrel, that's what the bushing is for. After the front bushing is removed, the barrel can slide backwards out of the action. This is not a "threaded barrel with a thread protector"; if you want to mount an accessory you need an adapter like the Walther P22 adapter that gives you threads that extend from the barrel (out the front of the slide).

  • Nice video man I don't own the 22 yet but I have the 9mm since walther made the 22 it is made just like the walther p22 the barrel is almost identically built that is Barrel cover on the end and that wrench is to take it off and remove it but i believe the barrel they said is fixed the p22 was not fixed and you could get the actually barrel out of the gun and clean it if you do take it off it screws right back in but don't loose that wrench walther p22 mags should work with M&P 22 the look ide

  • @shotsfired100 : Yes the end removes to allow removal of the barrel. See my "Part 3" Video I explain all this.

FYI, the Walther P22 magazines will NOT fit this gun, I tried. Absolutely not even close.

  • @ResponsibleCitizen64 The barrel is threaded 8x.75mm (same as a Walther P22). The 'bushing' is the thread protector. You remove that and then install an 8mm to 1/2x28 adapter (P22 adapter)

    Thanks for the review.

  • wouyld it it be good for comp

  • @tritan1 When I got my gun home, it was extremely dirty. I probably spent close to 2 hours cleaning it. However, I tried my 60gr SSS (for my 1:9" rifle) rounds through this thing first off as a function test and it performed flawlessly. To this day, I've never had a single issue with it, no FTE and no FTF's. I don't think the bullet weight in a barrel this short with a soft spring, will make much difference. Just clean the crap out of it and oil the necessities, 22s don't like a lot of oil.

  • Great review! Mine is coming in tomorrow, and will be a nice compliment to my M&P 15-22. For ammo CCI seems to run pretty flawless in the 15-22 where Federal bulk is ok when the gun is freshly cleaned but after a few hundred rounds at the range starts to have problems fully cycling. Seems every gun has a sweet spot for ammo - curious if the sub-sonic CCI will cycle the slide in the pistol (works like a champ in the 15-22).

  • what if you shoot the 36 grain federal first?

  • @fwbrc51 "Remington Golden Bullet" I was using this all the time, but switched to Federal because I had alot of duds with the Remington Golden Bullet. They are lead bullets that are "copper-washed", if I understand correctly.
