A clip from the West Wing introduces a fundamental concept of Divided Government, the founders intent, and who to vote for in 2008.

This election choice is not really between Experience vs. Change, nor is it between Experience vs. Experience, nor is it between Change vs. Change. This election is not really even between McCain vs. Obama considered in a political vacuum.

Since the Democrats will increase their majority in the House and Senate, this election is about choosing one of these two federal government configurations in 2009:

CHOICE A:
McCain/Palin (R) + Pelosi leading a 100 vote D majority in the House + Clinton/Reid leading a potential 60/40 filibuster proof D majority in the Senate. Two Republican reformers with a reputation for bucking their own party and launching bi-partisan initiatives working with a Democratic Party holding one of the largest single party congressional majorities in modern history.

- or -

CHOICE B:
Obama/Biden (D) + Pelosi leading a 100 vote D majority in the House + Clinton/Reid leading a potential 60/40 filibuster proof D majority in the Senate. A toe-the-party-line Democratic President and a consummate Washington insider working with a Democratic Party holding one of the largest single party congressional majorities in modern history.

Choose wisely.

  • One party power is the only time we get things done. FDR enacted social security, LBJ civil rights. We just need to make sure that the one part in control is the dems.

  • @nyraider91

    Not.

  • If I could suggest....take off the West Wing stuff and just go with the history lesson...it is a full on winner. Well done. Great perspective.

  • Your message is off though. Bartlett was saying not to lie about your views as a politician. Stand by them, don't compromise them just to get elected.

  • I just came here to watch the west wing clip

  • All the power now is in the hands of the Corpracrat party. Obama is not change. This is a third Bush term. Nothing will change untill we "throw away our vote" en masse and elect a third party that reresents the people. Not the corporations and globalists that donate to the Republicrats.

  • Er..."erosion of liberties" under Johnson? Are you sure you didn't get that the wrong way around?

"Confiscated gold" doesn't exactly strike fear into my heart.

Things like the Bay of Pigs are things that could not have been stopped by an opposition congress.

Opposition is created by separation of powers, not partisanship. Partisanship is an expression, as Bartlett says, of real disagreements, and should not fade away. But a Republican minority of 40 or more senators WILL be heard.
