I had one of these in mint condition & sold it for £100 back in the day. How i regret it, i didn't really know back then how to sync it back then. Was around '92.

@MrXoury Get one, you won't regret it. Out of all the Roland synths I own the SH-101 is the favourite by a mile.

@soundworkgroup Nah, that's a soft synth in Logic. 101 is purely the acid line on top of everything. I wish I'd kept the files to this track and finished it properly :(

@pomfrit93 The 101 is plugged into a Novation BassStation which converts MIDI (from Logic) to CV/Gate (what the 101 uses to sync).
You could use the Ext Click In on the 101 to keep it in time, but this would only keep the 101 arp or the 101 internal sequencer in time. By using the BassStation, you can play any MIDI sequence you like from Logic.
I'm sure there are other ways, but that's whats worked for me.

How many synths are playing in this track? To my ears there are at least three separate synth lines going on - bass (could be 2 layered basses), acid, and some kind of trancey riff. Is that right? If so, how could the 101 be playing all those lines at once? TIA.

@MrMikomi If I remember correctly I think I used several copies of Vanguard (a soft synth) for the extra bass, gated pad and any other bits and pieces you can hear.
The 101 only played the main acid riff, nothing else. I could have multi-tracked it for the bassline but I like working with gear running live.
