Teach-In: BP SPILL & BIG OIL--WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON, WHAT IT MEANS & WHAT WE CAN DO
On Tuesday July 20, 2010, as part of the 3-Month Gulf Disaster Anniversary National Week of Action, Mobilization for Climate Justice West organized this teach in to a standing room only crowd of 150 community members. Antonia Juhasz, leading oil industry expert and critic, just returned from the Gulf, meeting with impacted communities and groups. She is Director of the Chevron Program at Global Exchange, and the author of The Tyranny of Oil: The World's Most powerful Industry and What We Must Do to Stop It.
I have a great idea: All of you liberals who are against "Big Oil" should just STOP buying gasoline for your cars. Get up off your asses, walk to work or use a bicycle. Don't take public transportation because they use that evil oil. Maybe you could put a windmill on the back of your bike or perhaps on your hat or something. Oh wait! I forgot! Most of you libs don't actually work or have real jobs to go to. Unless of course you call "Community Organizer" a job. Pathetic!

Hey @caseygblake: Wake up on the wrong side?
Yeah, we ALL need dramatically reduce our consumption of fossil fuels. We can do some of it on our own, but we do need to shift our communities and our country-- public transit (so we can get to our "real jobs," right?), clean renewable energy, etc. Problem is big oil uses it's $ and power to block any kind of solutions.Only way to get around it and get some democracy is "community organizing," you know like the real Boston Tea Party organizers.
