We all know it isnt that much fun staring down a loaded gun. Just ask Joe or Melrose. Their hearts stopped beating and picked up again going 90mph. Joe reached for Melroses hand and squeezed it tight. The world moved in slow motion as Joe cranked his head toward Melrose.
"RUN!" He screamed as drew took his first shot. Melrose had moved just in time to see the bullet fly behind her and smash into the chapel wall knocking down a hand-made crucifix. Joe dragged Melrose out a side door as drew chased after them still holding his gun up, willing to aim.
Kevin and Maggie stormed through the doors, looking past Leighton who spun around and faced them, in shock. Before Drew left the church he looked back at Maggie who gasped at the sight of his gun. Drew looked at Maggie and Fired. The bullet spinning across the room and right into Maggie, making her fall to the ground and grab her chest.
A beautiful white dress, a now horrid shade of red.
"MAGGIE!" Kevin screamed collapsing to his knees next to her. Maggie convulsed and looked at the ceiling, the room spun and faded in and out, to white. She could faintly hear Kevins voice, and also a little boys who was cradled in Kevins arms. The boy cried as he tangled his fingers in the thin sheets of her lace dress.
"Mommy!" he shouted as Kevins hands pressed to her wound, blocking the evil yet to come, to stop the black parade from joining in on their party.
Melrose ran fast behind Joe, not stopping not remembering to breathe. Her feet carried her to infinite miles until Joe spotted Kevins car in the jam packed Parking lot. The two smashed into the side of the car breathing heavily, sweat showing on their foreheads.
"Hurry Joe, hurry!" Melrose called as Joe rummaged through the glove compartment finding the spare key. The contents spilled onto Melroses lap as Joes quivering hand shoved it all out of the way. The single key at the bottom was brought into the ignition and sound of the engine never felt so good. It felt much better then the pound on the hood when Drews hands slammed against it, his face angered and his gun still gripped into his white-knuckled hand. With gritted teeth he called out to Joe and Melrose.
"I should just kill you both right now, pull this trigger to you both. But what would it matter? Your both already dead!" he screamed. Joe and Melrose gulped, Joes knuckles also white from gripping the steering wheel. "But theres no room in this hell. And theres no room in the next. So I guess our memories will just defeat us." He said quietly just enough for the two to hear. He took a step back from the hood, with a smug grin on his face and pointed the gun at Joe, looking at Melrose. He smiled at her; her stomach turned with fear and disgust. Drew pulled that trigger proudly and boldly, confident. Joe winced, but looked up realizing that there was no bullet, for anyone. And thats when Drews face suddenly was deserted of a smile, a smug grin, but replaced with a gulp and a frown, for Joe who revved his engine and smashed his foot on the gas, letting the bumper smash into Drew, and Joe never stopped pressing on the gas he just kept driving, ignoring the dead body they left behind in the church parking lot.
Joe never looked at Melrose, even though there was now a red hot burning hole in the side of his head. Melroses eyes starred at his profile, tracing his every feature so it could be the image she sees instead of Drews.
"What do you think happened back at the Church, with Kevin and all of them?" Melrose said, her voice weak and raspy. Joe slowly turned his head and starred into her icy blues, taking them too the highway, a heart full of ammunition ready to blow at someone. And he wanted to end his days in a hail of Bullets with Melrose.
"I dont know. I dont know anything right now. I dont know where were going, I dont know what happened to them, I dont know why I am even here with you right now; but I want to be. Im trying , to let you know how much you mean to me. And after all the things weve put each other through, I want to drive onto the end with you Melrose. Anywhere. But I. Dont. Know." He said, his voice was drawn out and blown up. He seemed tired and exhausted. Melrose grabbed his hand which was now on the gear shift and intertwined her fingers with his.
"Lets just keep on running." Melrose said not looking back behind her. Ever.
