9/23/09 - United Nations General Assembly - Protest Rallies Against Dictators Frm Burma and Others

On 9/23/09, at the UN General Assembly meeting, hundreds of Human Rights defenders and Peace activists gathered in front of the UN blg and showed their opposition to the government of Burma, Iran, Tibet, Libya, and Kurdistan for their massive Human Rights violations and human massacres.

Great turn-outs of Iranians but not many Burmese there. Our community is small, and the protests were held during the day so many people can't take time off from work. I planned for this a week ahead, so I was able to take a few hours off. Despite the unequal sizes of different nationals, everyone there was very supportive of each other.

The dancers performing at the Burma event were brilliant - pain, suffering, and recuperation are all reflective of what people go through everyday in countries like Burma, Iran, Tibet, and Libya. I am sorry I did not get the name of the dance company - if you know, please drop me a line in the comment.

Today (9/24/09) is the founding day of NLD (National League for Democracy) - a political party led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the world's only Nobel Laureate imprisoned currently in Burma.
