As I'll be using this axe a lot in 2010, I thought I'd better explain what it's all about to save the questions later.

Larry Corsa told me that Steve Miller recently bought 4 of these LCPG's. Now I know why. These guitars absolutely sing.

The short story is: Larry Corsa of Allentown, PA, buys all the Gibson Fadeds he can get his hands on. Larry believes the Fadeds are some of the best sounding and playing production Les Pauls Gibson have ever released and I agree wholeheartedly. He converts them via serious hardware modifications to replicas of Peter Green's old '59 'Burst. This includes better pots, caps, tuners, jacks, wiring, toggle, pickups (correct out-of-phase configuration) and truss rod cover. The result is stunning to say the least.

This one is staying firmly put in my collection and I'll be buying another just as soon as I can afford it - hopefully before Gibson stop producing them!

Now you're onto a good thing, go for it. How much? Insanely inexpensive IMO: US$1999.00 at the time of writing. A bargain, indeed.

Oh, the backing track? One of those generics that you find on guitar magazine CDs. I've used it forever.

  • Just an update ...

Yesterday LCPG-187 took a fall. I was trying to navigate through my little studio which now houses over 500 pedals and all of the peripherals that come with them. I bumped a gizmo called the Mic Thing which is basically a portable isolation device for microphones: over it went and collected the Corsa which was on a stand. Nothing broken but there's now a very nasty gash on the bottom shoulder of the neck around the 1st - 2nd frets. The gods would have reeled at my cursing. :(

  • For the price and money put into that thing, I have to say it sounds great. And awesome playing.

You clearly feel comfortable with it. Would you feel comfortable with a $3K real one? sure .. but you probably saved like $2K which can be put towards other shit. Good job I like it.

  • Thanks for the compliments on the playing - very flattering! I've plenty of 'real' ones before. (What do you mean by that, anyway? Correct me if I'm wrong, but a Les Paul Faded is a Standard except for the gobs of lacquer. Which is probably why the Fadeds sound better - they can breathe!) Anyway, back to my point: I've owned plenty of 'real' ones and this beats them all by a mile. Crazy, eh? Thanks for watching. :)

  • my bad.. I thought this was a "replica gibson"... nevermind I'll re-read this all later I just got home from work I'm completly drained..I'm just confusing myself hah.

  • Hey, that's cool. Relax. We all need to! :) Seriously though, if you can snaffle one of these, do it. Gibson got pegged by the tree police late last year. I have it on VERY good authority that axes of this quality will become scarce quite soon. You have yourself a great new year. I wish you all the best. :) BK.

  • I'm sorry, but that's what you call uninformed tone; it's so fuzzy you could be using any guitar and it still would mask the sound of the guitar. Please be open to this feedback - go back to Peter Green's recordings - less (overdrive) is more. Even "The Supernatural" had upper harmonics coming out.

  • It's not uninformed at all. No need to be sorry. I bought the guitar because I liked the look of it and the sounds that Larry was pulling in his own video - not because I wanted to sound like Peter Green. In fact, it is only today that I've started to educate myself on all things Mr Green. I try to sound like me, not someone else. That's the tone that I pulled, not someone else's. This is a video about my playing and my new guitar, not someone else's. Get over yourself.

  • Fabulous.

  • Nice work!

  • @BillCBurgess I see what your sayingabout the tone in this clip compared to Peter Green's tone but remember that Gary Moore played with a very similiar tone as this one very effectively using Peter Green's original guitar as well. I liked Green's tone it was immediately identifiable for him but I also love Gary Moore's tone out of the same guitar and there is nothing wrong with burgerman's tone it is a very warm overdrive not harsh at all.

  • These things sound really great. And of course your playing's wonderful.

I've got a request. If you get to demo the sansamp oxford pedal when it comes out, I'd love to hear how it takes to this guitar. I've got a very woody, airy (similar tone-wise to these Corsa fadeds) Tokai LS150, and I'm thinking of going with the Oxford for that Peter Green Black Magic Woman blues tone. Would be great to hear it with a similar sounding LP.

  • Hi, sounds great. I'm proud owner of LCPG #252. (see my vid) and I only can say Yesssss it all is true. awesome sound.

  • Nice work!

I've got one of these too. Crazy isn't it, how good they are? Seems to defy logic, but they really are special. It beats every other LP I have, with the possible exception of my '55 Junior which has real old wood magic. The Corsa LP is more toneful and responsive to play than my limited edition Custom Shop specials, which are both fine guitars, but which cost many times more. Doesn't look like Larry will be able to make more of these any time soon, so anybody who's got one is lucky.

  • hey nice playing...and nice sound...

    .tone for days :-)
