Hey, it's Lorie Marrero [POP] and today's Clutter Video Tip is about helper shelves. Here we have one being used in a cabinet to store coffee mugs. And as you can see, all of this vertical space would have been wasted and now we can hold [POP] double the amount of coffee mugs in the same space. This one is made out of coated metal, but you can find a lot of other kinds. Here we have an example for you of some laminate ones that are used in an armoire to hold dishes and another one in a pantry. You can find these at any house wares store and you can start using the vertical space that might be wasted in your house.
So be sure to visit us at clutterdiet.com/freetips for more of these organizing strategies.
And, as always, may you always be happy and grateful for having more than enough.
Thanks so much... Was wondering if you have a helper tip for those DVD/CD cases that look like books. The title is usually on the spine.
Thanks in advance. Roz Fruchtman / Say It With eCards

@rozfruchtman We often recommend using CD/DVD wallets to house those instead of the cases that come with them. They take up a lot of linear feet on a shelf vs. the wallets just a few inches. And you can save the liner notes in the wallets too.

@clutterdiet Interesting idea, but one thought... "You could not alphabetize them in the sleeves. For example I have lots of spiritual teachings. Each come with from 2-6 CDs. They are all different titles. On the bookshelf they can be put in alphabetical order (but take up tons of room), and in the CD/DVD wallets if you put them in as you got them they would be out of order, but take up lots less room, but would be hard to find the titles in the end. (Hope this makes sense! ;)

@rozfruchtman You're right, there are tradeoffs. Solution is this: Excel spreadsheet, number the sleeves. Index all items-- one column for number, one column for title, add columns for other info if you like. Sort by title, then print. You'll then have an alphabetized list of everything in the wallet and it will tell you what numbered sleeve it resides in.
