Perhaps the greatest loss of Rory's untimely death is that it ended his nascent collaborations with Bela. I can't imagine, with the vast musical knowledge they both possessed, what could have been. At least we have these severa tracks from Montreax...

I talked to Bela last week. He said that it was a weird experience, because he did not know Rory, and didn`t think that Rory knew of him, but Rory`s promoter had asked Bela if he would jam with Rory. Bela then looked at me confused , with his shoulders shrugged and said: " and it was recorded and has been released for sale" I said: " I know, I listened to it on the way over here. I have it on CD(Wheels Within Wheels) and on DVD(Rory/Montreux)",to which he looked even more confused.

but Bela Fleck, came on by mistake instead. so Rory just went on with it and loved it.

I would have bought this DVD just for this jam alone, it's pure heaven (although there's 2 discs worth of sheer bliss)! I love the sound of Rory's excellent slide playing, with Bella's banjo bubbling up around it. I really enjoy Rory's jams with other artists, he was such a generous host, always giving them space to display their craft, and I love to watch the communication between them, and their joy in what they did. Story is, Rory was hoping for a jam with Bob Dylan, but got Bela instead!
