That's great paddling country around Willapa Bay. I want to paddle the Palix River, in with the tide and back out with the tide. I paddled out to the west shore of southwest Long Island in a cheap, little entry level kayak. It felt safe going out in low tide but it got kind of scary with big waves when the tide was high. Sea kayakers thought I was odd using such as little boat to get out to Long Island. Canoeing seems dicey during some tides.
Those who have been there have experienced far more than this flic can show. For it is the breath of air, the SW breeze off of ocean, sounds of birds and wildlife, so quiet one can hear those fingerlings jumping, that sounds like fresh rain falling. I've seen sturgeon breaching the waters, eagles, Elk, otter, raccoon, and bear as nature intended, miratrory and year long birds, for It is not just the seeing, but the feeling. Experience it alone and its oneness embrases you, nature s bond.
I worked in Astoria for a few years and canoed these waters myself. Seen it from the air as well. What a shame if it becomes just another 2nd home for out-of-staters. I hope they like skeeters.
See it before planned 260 acre along South and east shores and forest developement of luxury homes line the banks of bay. Once gone never again. Of course most would never understand the beauty in todays chrome and I pod world as the last pristine bays give way to monied interest.
Isle Of Loch Loman. Great tribute to last great place in WA.Walk on Isle and see Cathedral Cedar, Elk, Bear, Deer. waterfowl, Eagles. Enjoy bay waters while you can as Nature conservancy will use chemicals soon from a donors Industry to kill weeds.they already logged enough timber to pay back and will eventually sell to state. Paul Allen a backer.Should outlaw all logging for 2 miles from water front on whole Willipa estuary system.
