Creating a Bass
In this tutorial we are going to create a simple bassline that will fit in between our drums. We are going to use another built in Ableton Live device. The device we are going to use is called the Simpler. The Simpler is a very powerful sampler that allows you to sample any piece of audio, change it up and replay it using midi notes.
• Start --This allows you to set when the sample will start
• Length --This allows you to set the length of the sample
• Attack --The amount of time it takes for a sound to reach its peak. When it reaches its peak it starts to sustain
• Sustain --Once a sound has reached its peak, the length of time that the sound will sustain is dependent upon the energy from the source vibrations. When the source sound stops, the sound will began to decay.
• Decay - The decrease in amplitude when a vibrating force has been removed is called decay. The actual time it takes for a sound to diminish to silence is the decay time.
• Release --Is the amount of time the note will continue after you lift your finger off the key
• Pan --It is the spreading of a sound signal from one side of the channel to the other ie from left to right
• Spread --This spreads a mono sound over the to channels giving it a stereo feel
• Transpose --This changes the pitch of the sample. Please note that 12 semitones (st) in one octave
• Piano Roll --This is where you insert in the notes that you want to play. You can also record your notes in from a midi keyboard or device
