  • Bringing clarity to this situation is very commendable, especially for the students who have no choice but to stay here for University.

However it should not mislead people into thinking it is a better system; nobody who goes to university intends to or will earn less than 21K, government education cuts cannot be justified when military funding is so high, UK Uni's are horny for the US system but won't have the goods to offer in the short term. As to lifelong debt?! come on...

  • It's a shame that this has been explained so poorly by the politicians who forced this onto students. Everybody i've spoken to about the new system seems to be terribly misinformed. Martin's, thankfully doing a wonderful public service.

  • 30 years passes and i would've paid about 87,000 pounds. I don't see any fairness in this. These scumbag policy makers payed less than half that amount or even nothing for their University. Instead of funding the new generations, they fund the fking military to go to libya and where else not. Don't say i don't understand the system, i do and there is no other choice than to take out a loan to pay for it. Long gone are those days where you could study without a loan. Work in gap year=meaningless.

  • @iamoneilly you will have to do what Martin mentions towards the end of the video and work out how much loan, grant, bursary, and support from parents/savings you will have, and then write up a budget based on what you think you will spend your money on.

  • @delovicha Things are slightly different for non UK students - you aren't necessarily entitled to the funding from Student Finance England as you are not from the UK - either ask at your school/college for help there or do your research on the internet. This martin lewis video only applies to new starters in 2012 going to university in England, who are also from/reside in England

  • I still don't get it. I'm not from the UK but I plan to study there without funding from parents. Is it possible to get a loan for living costs if I take a part time job there?

  • I'm a Scottish student studying a NQ Biomedical Science and was hoping to apply for Northumbria University in England for 2012 entry for ODP, I come from a very little income single parent household and I have no money fo my own, will I still be able to go to the university and live off student loans alone?

  • I wish more people would understand this for gods sake! NARROW MINDED people rioting when they haven't even understood or acknowledged the regulations and consequences of this new change!

  • I guess I can go to uni in 2012, awesome.

  • I have a question. Can a foreign student benefit from a student loan ?

  • there were a couple of counter points I thought of to some of his points, but good video. I learnt a couple things
