It's a shame that this has been explained so poorly by the politicians who forced this onto students. Everybody i've spoken to about the new system seems to be terribly misinformed. Martin's, thankfully doing a wonderful public service.

Bringing clarity to this situation is very commendable, especially for the students who have no choice but to stay here for University.

However it should not mislead people into thinking it is a better system; nobody who goes to university intends to or will earn less than 21K, government education cuts cannot be justified when military funding is so high, UK Uni's are horny for the US system but won't have the goods to offer in the short term. As to lifelong debt?! come on...

I am so glad he has done this. I went back to college to give a talk about going to university as a favour to my tutor and only two people out of the whole year had applied, when there was about 70. And it is because they said they could not afford it. They are not educated about the help they receive! It is shameful how little information the government is prepared to give on ways they can help you financially. They do not want you to know. It is shocking.

Its most definately a better system.

You are paying back over £500 a year less than with the last system, and it only goes on for 30 years.

I don't understand why people think that system is bad? Its taking more from the rich and charging less for the poorer earners.

The reason people are saying 'OH GOD I CANT PAY 9000 A YEAR!' Is because they are trying to tell the government to not raise the fees, they all know they can pay it back with a loan :L

What he fails to mention is that wages tend to increase over time as a result of inflation. So the 21k threshold may seem like a lot today but in 10-15 years time or more it may not be a particularly large salary. If inflation stays around the 4-5% mark or increases then it may not take long for this to occur.
