@wilhamlin I gave you your two options (there are others...but pretty much the same). NO BLIND PERSON uses the Windows built in stuff...it's garbage. I teach people who are blind how to use screen readers...for 10 years. I've never met one who thinks what microsoft does is adequate. It is not a screen reader in any real sense. Face it, on accessibility Microsoft blows. Apple is better, at least in this area. You should try the "better spec" arguments, you'll go further.

@DMaggiam So, your saying the only option is to go and buy other programs... instead of actually going into the control panel and looking for the settings for said blind? That sounds like a great idea -_-
-
@wilhamlin Yes, it comes with VoiceOver....Windows requires outside software. You can use NVDA which is free, but for full accessibility with a variety of software, JAWS seems to be the standard with Windows.Add to that it's what most users who are blind are introduced to in their school days, so they end up being most comfortable with it on a PC. 800-1000 bucks for JAWS....plus a few hundred every time you want to update it. Apple makes all of it's devices fully accessible.

@DMaggiam So right out of the box, Mac is already set up for the blind? Not to mention that there is already software in the OS that caters to the blind. I'm not quite sure why you think that it'll cost $1000 to cater to the blind.

@refsocrd1 My blind students can use a Mac right out the box, with no assistance. Can a PC do that? Yeah, for an extra grand. Suck it.

297 communists didn't like this
-
@DMaggiam so it's a 3 grand os, on a 700 dollar rig?
yeah that makes sense.
When apples makes competitively priced computers, i'll take another look, till then i'll stick to going for better specs.
An os will only carry a crap spec system so far.
-
@refsocrd Apple users don't buy them for the specs...they buy them for the OS or, if they're posers, for the fancy alu case.
-
@SexyCeoArai so you are saying that any display beats an imac's?
-
@mkfag77 any one i want
@termiborger, dude, the imacs start at 2 grand, for that price i can buy 5 times the windows box.
And sorry the specs are crap, i mean seriously 16gb max memory?
For the price of a maxed out imac(3700), i could build my dream system. multiple blue ray drives(sorry macs don't have those), and multiple sli/crossfire videocards(sorry macs don't have those either).
Guess macs are still great for the price.
NOT!!!

Ubuntu works well for me. It's secure, easy to use, does everything I want and cost me nothing. Resistance isn't futile.
