I think ithe animal welfare varies from state to state. Some states still have 'kill' shelters and some also still use gasto euthanise instead of lethal injection. But sadly the US does have a lot of dumped animals.

Hi Shinbooks, when you say "They prefer to kill cats and dogs than rats and mice.", who are you referring to? I should hate to think that the people in N.Y. or the U.S.A. come to that, are as bad as the Greeks for getting rid of strays!

The animal rights people along with the city themselves. I know that a lot of dogs have been abandoned in the streets and then when picked up they are killed. Same with cats. But when it comes to rats and mice, nothing is really being done about it. People are scared of them because they attack people and give them rabies. I believe that mice and rats are more dangerous than Dogs and cats.

Thanks for your quick reply. I am quite shocked, cats and dogs are abandoned all over the world, and I assumed that the U.S. would be like the u.k. collect them up and keep them at a shelter. They are fed and looked after and neutered if they are worth saving but the sick and old are euthanased.

I know, but the mice and rats be looking more healthier than the dogs and cats. They do have animal police, but they are not large in force. I love dogs. I have one myself.
