This is the campaign mode in the game Mechwarrior 3 developed by Zipper Interactive and published by Microprose. It is based off of the FASA battletech universe and was released in 1999. (That's right, this game is almost 10 years old.)

Here is the campaign's storyline as summarized by Wikipedia: The story opens with a briefing of the Inner Sphere commanders daring plan to eliminate the most hostile and vicious clan in the Inner Sphere: Clan Smoke Jaguar. The mission, codenamed Damocles, is to attack key Smoke Jaguar installations on the planet Tranquil, including a 'Mech Factory, a starport and a geothermal power plant, and to eliminate Smoke Jaguar forces and leadership on planet.

Two dropships are deployed to release the multi-lance BattleMech force to destroy these installations. However, while in orbit above Tranquil, a dropship is attacked by massive naval laser fire. The Blackhammer is shot down and the remaining dropship, The Eclipse, retreats to safety. The player (referred to only as lance leader) had already been deployed from the Blackhammer slightly off target before it was shot down. The Mobile Field Bases (MFB) that had been deployed with the player land on target, and the player meets up with them quickly.

It is quickly apparent that the original plan is no longer viable- less than half of the 'Mechs are deployed, with the rest either shot down during the drop or still on-board the Eclipse. Despite this setback, the player must continue with his objectives, and hope to link up with those forces that survived, and eventually, secure a landing zone so the dropship can return to evacuate them.

So that's how it is. A cool thing about the campaign is that you star off with only your stock (unmodified) Bushwacker and must destroy enemies to get salvage to customize your mech. Even the way you kill your enemy determines what salvage you get. (This is why you'll see me legging [shooting off legs] enemy mechs.) For example, if your enemy has an Autocannon 20 in his right arm, if you shoot off his right arm, the weapon is destroyed and you can't salvage it. =( Another thing is that you can only carry around so much salvage. Your 3 faithful MFBs (Mobile Field Bases) can carry 300 tons of salvage each, including 2 mech chassi. This may sound like alot, but when you consider that mostly everything weighs more than a ton, you can get pressed to figure out what you want to bring with you can what you want to leave behind. (This is done by allocating items, which you will see me do as time goes on) And if you lose a Field Base to combat, you can carry even less salvage. (There is a mission where you get them back though?) Anyways, enjoy! I plan on going through the whole campaign so please feel free to comment constructively and rate!

That Thor is a meanie, he killed Dominic! Yet strangely, Dominic still talks on the mic when you go to certain locations and complete certain objectives lol. Also, I decided to show an alternate route to get in the lake if you have no JJ's, it's at the end of the video and I walk through the tunnel.

  • MAN. I'm so mad, lol. MW3 still crashes. I cant do Campaign at all, and I still crash every few minutes on ANY other mode. And tips or ideas?

  • Err... I'm no tech guy and I've never had any problems running MW3 on any comp. But, like I always suggest when people come to me for help, is to go to the MW3 Community Project Forums and ask for help there. The guys there know a lot more than me and will probably be able to help you out.

  • i have a tough time takeing out the anihalator

  • Don't worry, a lot of people do. Just keep moving.

  • Fastest way to knock out a mech is shooting the leg. That way, you can salvage a mech at the end of a mission as opposed to hitting the torsos all the time.... For all the mechs in MW3, Avatar seemed to be the toughest one for me to deal with...

  • Legging ftw. And I seem to have the hardest time dealing with pumas. (Or Adders for you clanners out there) Light buggers with dual ppc's. That just says pain.

  • Damn dude, you can tear it up, great game, love the walkthrough, great work...

  • @gasflame62 I've found the best way to take out the Anihilator at the underground Mech factory was to send the other 2 mechs after it and then enter the factory area in a Thor loaded up with 4 ER Large Lasers with the rest of the spaces taken up with heat-sinks. Shoot a leg and DON'T MISS, for if the Anihilator gets up, it's over! It seems to be 'the' unbeatable configuration; heavy long-range firepower if loaded up with the Clan double heatsinks, good speed and armor.

  • @Meredith1234567890 I have read that an older Operating System helps. The newer Vista formats can lead to crashes. The Millenium edition or MS2000 was the last OS that ran Mech3 well. I know this might be a radical step but having a dedicated PC for Mech 3 as well as some of the older games may be the best bet.

  • I never cared for how leggy the mechs look in this.. like how there almost isnt enough room for them between the mech and ground. Still, the game look sbetter than mechwarrior 4 besides that. Wish I had known about this game. Ended up going from MW2 to MW4 vengeance, sadly. Nice game. Maybe I'll get it someday.

  • One word...Sunder. It's got height for observation, speed and nice weapon carrying capability. Add the armor potential and I'll face anything in one of those.

  • u gotta love ppcs though :3

  • No, I just shoot at the back, less armour and wait for the engine to explode - couldn't care about salvage
