Commuter Train/Freight Train Collide outside Los Angeles

There are sadly now Confirmed 25 dead, mostly from the first passenger car.This is a FINAL count.
Unfortunately the Metrolink engineer sent a text message 1 minute before the accident. This may have caused him to miss the signal, and Metrolink has admitted this morning that their engineer was at fault, causing the accident by blowing through a red stop light.

These two trains, the Pacific Union freight and the Metrolink share this stretch of track frequently, and use a signal system like we do with cars to communicate.

Mayor Villaraigosa has suggested a technical fail safe system to prevent human error like this again. I think it maybe be time.

Sadly the high death count is due to the fact that the Metrolink engine pulling the train was rammed back into the first passenger car, upon impact.

The rescue is now a recovery, and is painstakingly slow like peeling an onion.
The approximate number of passengers on the Metrolink totaled 220, there are 24 confirmed dead(as of 2pm PST), and 150 were injured, and I believe 40 were considered critical(meaning their airways or their heart rythm, brainwaves, were at risk of failing).

Update 6:00pm, the recovery of victims is over.

The Red Cross is asking that people donate blood, as there was trauma that occured.
