The Taimatsu Akashi fire festival has been held in Sukagawa every year for over 420 years. This year it looked like it might not be possible to hold the festival, but help from all around the country made it possible. Originally a memorial service for warriors from the Samurai era, it has turned into a dramatic event that reminds us a bit of what it must have been like in those feudal days. This year the festival has a special purpose, to remember victims of the disaster. Also, as a sign of recovery, it unites the people of Fukushima.
