One of my favorite lines: by this random old lady who saw Otto run into the trash "Pick it up! You know yourself you were wrong. Go on, pick it up. It wasn't in the middle of the street. That's not the middle of the street, that's the corner!" To which Otto replies, "you pick it up." And then later in the movie, you can see her in the emergency room chatting up the attendant and saying "it really comes to something when they expect YOU to pick it up!"
