Demo Reel 2007
I am the sole creator of all the shots on this demo.
The 3D elements were modeled and textured in 3D Studio Max, and animated using a combination of motion capture files, motion generated using Natural Motion Endorphin, and animation key framed by hand.
Rendering the 3D elements in separate layers facilitates compositing in
Adobe After Effects, with additional effects created in Wondertouch Particle Illusion.
Shot List
0. Intro shots
Showing a stylized background blur effect with overlaid graphics generated in Particle Illusion.
1. Hospital Scene
3D Elements are rendered in separate layers. Glowing electronics, glass reflections, and camera motions created in After Effects
2. Walking Crowd
Motion capture files and key framed animation are used to drive multiple instances of the character elements. Background smoke created in Particle Illusion. Layer compositing, including yellow light glow effect, created in After Effects.
3. Standing Crowd
The same production pipeline is used to create a larger crowd, with key framed animation for the central characters in the scene.
4. Character Action Scene
The first two shots are animated with key frame animation.
In the second shot, a 3D max script is used to generate a tracking point for the left character's hand, which is used in After Effects to attach the saturated blue effect.
The third shot shows a mixture of motion capture, Endorphin animation, and key framed animation techniques.
5. 2D Art - Paris Skyline
A digital sketch of the Paris skyline created in Microsoft Expression 3.
6. Character Interactions and Effects
A series of shots showing key framed characters interacting with each other.
7. End Shot
A motion graphic, created in After Effects, showing some stills from a previous film project.
I also created the background music in this demo reel.
It was better than anything I could do. But why are their arms so short? Is it part of the style? I really liked the psychics or monks in the orange robes, though. Good luck.

That's just kinda the way the characters look with the robes on, the actual models fit to the standard 3dmax biped model, so the arms aren't actually any shorter. It's just the way it is and I'm not about to change it now that I have 40 minutes of my film done ;D

Good stuff man! I've got one tiny comment.. I'd lose the 1st 15 seconds.

Yeah, actually I'll probably comp a new demo soon anyways with updated footage.
