@SqueezeMyLemonBabe yeah, without knowing the exact chord voiceings it can be difficult to get "that exact sound"....especially primitive artists that may have used unconventional, oddball finger positions
-
@SqueezeMyLemonBabe come on man, saying that whites don't know what the blues is is like saying blacks don't know what classical music is....same thing. Us whites have a lot of things to be blue about...our 401K's are crashing, there is a country wide shortage of mayonaise and Wonder Bread, we don't know how to dance, our kids walk around with baggy pants and sideways hats, The Klan upped the yearly membership dues......it's hard to get by

just shutup and listen.

@SqueezeMyLemonBabe whites dont know what the blues is????? listen to jack whites son house cover of death letter! listen to eric clapton play ACOUSTIC DELTA BLUES, listen to stevie ray vaughn, you can live in the past man because blues has become a white mans game, black folk are rappin these days

@FierySkillz This is true
but the main reason people can't play his tunes is not because they're hard to play, its because only Johnson who wrote the tunes could play them properly, just as Son House and others play their own separate tunes. It is impossible to recreate, especially by whites who have no true idea what the blues is. robert Johnson took to the road and probably did nothing but play guitar - explanation for his talent.

@FierySkillz : I'll chime in: Robert Johnson was a technically superior guitarist to Son House, and was said to have been able to play in any style. He was a virtuoso, influenced by Lonnie Johnson as much as by House. However, his voice is not as good as Son's, IMO, and I would consider Son (and Patton) to be more soulful. In fact, House may be the definition of soul, along with Blind Willie Johnson, who was also a better guitarist. I listen to Son and Blind Willie more than RJ these days.

@SqueezeMyLemonBabe Also we shouldn't argue over who was best. I can listen to Son, Patton Johnson, James etc all day long. I only responded because you said that Johnson is over rated and not very talented which I think is just plain wrong. I'm sorry but you cannot argue that Johnson is the most popular of all the Delta players. This is not down to gimmicks or hype. Also he was extremely talented on guitar. Barely anyone on youtube can play his guitar parts right. 80 years later with tab etc.

@SqueezeMyLemonBabe I think both SonHouse and Patton are excellent but Johnson's work surpasses both of them. Look, art is subjective and like I said I don't think you'll find many who will agree with you. Johnson copied from Son etc but his skill was to take all the best elements and package them in great 3min pop blues songs. Do you play guitar? How on earth can you even compare Johnson's slide work to Son's? Son could barely play guitar while Johnson's still one of the greatest ever.
