i love that the o.u is there to give people who for whatever reason cannot study at a conventional university but i have to say that my 3 years with them have not been as easy as that.I have received no support from my tutors they do not respond to emails never answer the phone, some of my course materials did not turn up until 7 months into the course despite no less than 4 emails and 17 phone calls .Im determined to finish but i feel very let down by the open university.
When making negative comments, PhiAndpi, it is normally better to substantiate with some sort of evidence. I can only guess you are saying that the course you haven chosen does not match your interests. As a full-time OU student (120 CATS per year), I can honestly say that the course materials are exceptional. Moreover, the OU has transformed my life and I have now gone from a dead-end job to one where I am proud and have an excellent future ahead of me.
I personally think that when I finish this course ( I would rather not say what it is), I'm seriously thinking about taking an A level in the subject just to give me a good grounding in it. To me this OU course sucks big time!!!
I went to a red brick uni to study physics. I decided to finish it through the OU, as it was costing way too much!!!
The OU was soooo much better than uni in terms of study material. I was very surprised! At regular uni, your relying on the lecturer being good (all of them).
I found the OU work to be more testing, but the material is there to back that up! Its very well organised too!
