Listen to the rough shift on this 2012 Focus with Powershift transmission. Ford says they know it's a problem with a lot of these vehicles, but the dealer has been instructed there is no fix at this time, so don't work on it.

Update: I have researched the mechanics of a DCT transmission and I am beginning to believe that I may know the problem with the Ford DCT (Powershift) transmission, which uses a cheaper, dry clutch system. One clutch controls even gears and reverse while the other controls odd gears. While one is engaged the associated shaft turns 3 gears, one of which is engaged by a selector, the other clutch should be disengaged allowing the computer to anticipate the next gear and select it so it will be ready when the second clutch is engaged and the first is disengaged. I think that the inactive clutch is staying partially engaged causing some torque on the gears as the selector engages the gear, thus the grinding sound. One additional fact that I believe supports this theory is noticed while coasting. At that time, the clutches are supposed to disengage and the computer is supposed to analytically select a gear based on the vehicles speed and allow the appropriate clutch to be engaged when the accelerator is depressed, thus engaging the selected gear. Instead, as I am coasting, there is an obvious drag on the vehicle and you can feel the gears be selected as the vehicle continues to decelerate. The drag disappears when you shift to neutral. This drag indicates a partially engaged clutch. Then again, I'm no expert and this is just a hypothesis. What do you think?
