Geriatric Blues - Bessie Smith take 2

So sorry about having the original video rejected for copyright reason, it is a pity since I had found lots of footage from one of her films and some of live performances which would have made the better accompaniment to the song than the still images that one usually has to use. There are loads of Bessie Smith songs on Youtube so I don't know how they managed to get through but there it is and hope that you may enjoy the narrative about some of her life. Better next time I hope.

Bessie Smith was an influence of the music of Janis Joplin - my favorite of all time - and I think Janis was responsible for buying the headstone for Bessie Smith. I love this channel!!!!!!!

That was indeed one of Bessie's all time greats. It's such a shame that the copyright frenzy has gotten so out of hand that we can't even share classic works of artists from nearly a century ago. The corporate big shots must squeeze every penny they can out of us. Sigh...

Bessie Smith is a favourite of mine. So many great songs, but I particularly like 'Send me to the 'lectric chair' and 'Give me a pigfoot and a bottle of beer'.
