Charted at #3 in October 1920. Beautiful song from the "Ziegfeld Follies of 1920". John Steel had a fantastic tenor voice, and is one of my favourite singers from this time period. Written by Irving Berlin.
John Steel was clearly an admirer of John McCormack, given the studied resemblance in voice and style. But unlike many other imitators, Steel managed it very nicely! Steel sang this lovely song in the original production of the Follies of 1920; it is good to have the performance documented by this delightful record. Thanks for putting it up on Youtube. Five stars!
