It would seem that there aren't many die hard fans of this anime out there but luckily I'm one of 'em!

Robot Carnival was one of the first animes that I remember seeing. I guess I first saw it when I was about 9 and admittedly I didn't get what most of the shorts in this film were trying to say. Actually, I still don't get some of them. Most of them have messages in them, the message of the opening and ending being "The pomp and grandure of today will be the destruction of tomorrow." Or ... um ... Something like that! ^_^'

Anyway, please enjoy Robot Carnival.

  • hey people... I have a question: Im looking for an anime i´ve seen in france a couple of years ago... and as my french aint decent i had no idea what anime that was... saw only 1 episode of it anyway... It was about a group of girls in mechas. These mechas were transported to the battle in some kind of train, the locomotive had a front shaped almost like a face with big teeth... they were fighting... something (no idea what...) and got horribly beaten up as one after the other mechas exploded...

  • ahhh, memories. incidentally, I also miss the old Sci-Fi (not "see fee") Channel.

  • Yes! Had it on VHS!

  • Maybe Aniplex can do a limited edition version of this movie for like $90.00...I would be all over it :)

  • Why are the faces in anime so lazily done, when the rest of the animation doesn't take any short cuts?

I'm not complaining. I'd just like to hear from anyone who can explain the aesthetic.

  • Streamline Pictures... yes, managed by Carl Macek, actually played this in small independent theaters. It was a simple transition as there was very little dubbing necessary.

Streamline Pictures also brought over the 1st dubbed version of Laputa, which was a much better english dub than the later Disney version and kept the soundtrack intact. This was also shown in small independent theaters.

  • This is the first anime I saw too,but I saw it when I first got cable back in the 80's. Now I'm a full fledged otaku... thanks Japan! :D
