We just had granite installed on our island. The granite overhangs the edge of the counter too far and underneath is exposed plywood. They are saying this is normal installation. Also it is off level by about 1/4 inch on one side and the plywood actually hangs below the granite in one section.

Please help - need advice! Just had a granite countertop installed and under the bar area the stone is not polished underneath - is this normal or is it supposed to be polished? Thanks!

@ac79ns I don't believe there is a set standard on this, but as common sense, we smooth out at least half of the overhang underneath. This prevents clothes getting caught on the stone. I wouldn't expect a full gloss polish like on the top, but it's reasonable to expect the underside not to be raw/rough.
