2012 models 2012 Chevrolet Sonic: good performance in front, side, rollover, and rear tests and standard electronic stability control

FRONTAL OFFSET TEST

OVERALL EVALUATION: Structure/safety cage Injury measures Restraints/dummy kinematics
Head/neck Chest Leg/foot, left Leg/foot, right

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.

Good Acceptable Marginal Poor
Test details:

The Chevrolet Sonic was introduced in the 2012 model year as a replacement for the Chevrolet Aveo.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. The driver side curtain airbag deployed during the crash. After the dummy moved forward into the frontal airbag, its head contacted the side curtain airbag.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the neck, chest, and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that head injuries would be possible.

  • Head hitting the steering wheel, possibly dashboard... side curtain airbags seems not to work the right way... looks not safe at all...just my 2 cents...

  • @lucaseq77 Received the Top Safety Pick Award from IIHS

  • Anyone know what the speeds are in these videos?

  • @FalkataSports 40 m.p.h or 64 k.p.h for the frontal offset

  • @firedemon101 WOW That's about Top Speed for this car! All joking aside neat small car, just need a higher powered SS model and I'd buy one.

  • @Ph33nxOne Rather the new Accent

  • @lucaseq77 Enough to take best pick at that speed ... Dangerous at higher speeds of course ... Even it is the safest car in the world we must beware to drive at high speeds ...

  • the 2011-present Chevrolet Sonic/ Holden Barina (Australia)/ Chevrolet Aveo is assembled in

    South Korea: Bupyeong-gu, Incheon

    United States: Orion Township, Michigan

  • @firedemon101 Ah well in that case not to bad for the type of car and size!

  • @srcej6 it's not like they program the side airbags to come out in a frontal crash test, it depends on where the sensors for the side air bags are, and how much pressure is sensed with them. Look at the 2006 Kia Sedona for example, it has standard side airbags, and they don't go off in the crash test.
