Some footage/images of Jupiter and the Moon taken on the morning of the 4th of August, 2009.

I wasnt planning on setting up the telescope this morning, but I read on Iceinspace (an Australian amateur astronomy website) that the Bird strike the recent impact mark left on Jupiter by a comet or asteroid would be transiting. It looks like I was just able to catch the end of it. The Moon was still up as well, so I got some footage of it as well.

My telescope is a 10 Newtonian and it was mounted on a standard EQ6 mount. I used a DMK21AU04.AS CCD for capture.

  • sorry to ask this but Jupiter is not a black and white planet then why its shown in b/w?

  • @singhparveen77 The camera I use is greyscale, it only records in black and white.

  • Tell me, how do you do this (video threw your telescope?) thanks for any reply you give to me ;)

  • @EvilMatty12 Yup, I have a small camera that goes in the place of the eyepiece on the telescope. It's not like a regular video camera though, it's called a DMK21AU. You can still do pretty neat stuff with a regular video camera though, a lot of my older stuff used an old Panasonic video camera that was just held up to a regular eyepiece. Hope this helps!

  • What is the focal length of your 10 inch Newtonian?

  • Sorry for the late reply, I missed this comment earlier. My 10" Newt has a focal length of 1250mm

  • @ChrissyoSpace OK!!

  • Amazing quality dude. Too bad it's in black and white.

I have a cheap little telescope that I can see 4+ moons of jupiter through. Does yours capture less light?
