I have been a long-time fan of the work of King Crimson and Robert Fripp. Starless has been among my most favorite of KC"s works. The 1922 Nosferatu is a masterful work, but I always felt that it needed a good soundtrack. I heavily (and in some places poorly) edited Starless from Red and reduced Nosferatu to a highly condensed version 8 minutes long. The soundtrack needs a lot more work, but I decided to just go ahead and put the semi-finished video on line, hoping to get back to work on it again sometime this year. Starless may seem like an odd choice but the musical pandemonium reflects the pandemonium wreaked on the city and the overall repeating theme just seemed to work well.

  • amazing marriage of art. this whole new attention to the music we all listened to and loved over the years mixed with images from all over the universe. when i worked in computers in 1980 who would have thought typing data cards would turn into this. great job. this is one of my fav king crimson songs.

  • @gmansoul During the same period, I also worked with data entry with punch cards and then taught PCs and word processing. Who indeed would have believed that primitive, clunky mess would have evolved so quickly. For me the applications evolving was fantastic but the storage growth was almost as good. Hey if you don't know what an 80 column card is or never booted from 8 inch disk with no hard drive, you never computed. I never missed using an audio cassette as data storage, never once.

  • I HATE nephalim

  • @nonfoods1 If you don’t like nephilim, you don’t have to eat it. Try some nice lark’s tongue in aspic.

  • I have been a fan of King Crimson for a few years, now, and I've discovered the amazing song Starless through this videoclip (and incidentally discovered Nosferatu as well), so thanks for setting up this great encounter of great minds!

  • @UneBananeBleue Thank you for taking the time to watch. One of my goals was to expose people to old music and ideas in a new way. YouTube has been an excellent resource for the exchange of ideas.

  • You did an amazing job with this; what a great idea you had. Featured this vid on my page today. Can you do more KC vids like this? Pretty please??? (batts eyelashes) LOL

  • K.C. was a great band. I don't think it should be associated with anything but the sensational feeling You get when listening. No video is required and should not be.

Well if You like, I will not argue, everyman to himself.

STILL, King Crimson IS the best band, ever.

That is my "humble" opinion. / All my love

B.t.w. listen to "Dust", album "Hard Attack" ?

  • The song is thirteen minutes long for a f*(*ing reason. If you can't handle the middles section, then leave the song alone. Sorry, the video is enjoyable, but taking away the dissonant tri-tone in 13/8 or whatever signature it is in is criminal!!!

  • @StegorBatLenny

They made Nosferatu set to some Pink Floyd ? I have the soundtrack of an 80s Metropolis re-release but I didn't know they did something similar with Nosferatu.

  • @monisiti

Got the movie on DVD today. Way cool too. :D Much better quality than on youtube and I have the b&w version and a "colored" version (the "white-ish" parts being blue or yellow depending on the circumstances), the latter being the best.
