USS Yorktown (CV/CVS-10) was an Essex-class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, and is now a museum ship at Patriot's Point , Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
The first Yorktown was a 16-gun ship sloop commissioned in 1840 that sunk in 1850 after hitting a reef in the Cape Verde islands.
The second Yorktown was a gunboat, launched in 1888, commissioned in 1889 and decommissioned in 1921.
The third Yorktown (CV-5) was an aircraft carrier commissioned in 1937, and a major combatant in World War II until she was sunk at the Battle of Midway in 1942.

  • USS Yorktown (CV-5) was sunk.

New carrier was named USS Yorktown (CV-10).

  • I went there in 2001.I went all the way down to the propeller shafts in the rear hull. Creepy down there. I lost all my photos in a hard drive crash ( I had one of me by the Huey next door I really liked). Just looking at these photos I swear I cam smell that musty smell.

  • ...your description facts are all wrong. The first Yorktown was comissioned in the 1600s, not 1840 -.-

I slept on the CV-10 just yesterday. My ROTC group toured it for 3 days.

  • It amazes me that people think this isnt real. I went on vacation to Charleston, SC last summer and toured the USS Yorktown. My dad served on this ship in the 60s during the Vietnam War in the Marine Corps. He was a Sgt =) I loved getting to walk around the ship (though it was rly crowded and 108 degrees haha) but it was a great experience and id recommend it to anyone!!

  • i slept on the boat in 2006 in boy scouts for selling popcorn like $250 or something pretty cool there was a big ass anti aircraft gun near our sleeping quarters

  • Lol, Charlotte, South Carolina.

  • This is the same ship my grandpa was on So many funny navy stories

  • @sg10nike to be technical it's in Mt. Pleasant!

  • @redvand actually its in CHARLESTON I SHUD KNO I LIVE THERE

  • My grandpa worked on that ship. He was on it when the Japanese bombed the ship. One bomb whent down the Smoke Stack and out the side of the ship.

  • My uncle's father worked on the first USS Yourktown. He was a gunman on the deck. When it sank he was able to get off the ship so he lived to fight another fight

  • So this yorktown is like the Royal Ark of brittain, they also rebuild it.
