Crash Dutch Supercar Challenge (DSC) - On-board camera

Driver: Bart van Raamsdonk.com - BRL-V6 #258.
Location: TT Circuit Assen.
Event: Superleague Formula.
Date: 16th of May.

Involved drivers:
- Kevin Riley (Mosler MT900 GT3)
- Rick Abresch (Corvette Z06 GT3)
- Michael Donovan (Porsche 997 GT3)
- Bart van Raamsdonk (BRL-V6).

Situation:
DSC classes "GT" & "Supersport 1" are Racing the second race of the weekend. In the end of lap 1, just before the start/finish line, a Mosler falls down and is standing still after the chicane. Bart van Raamsdonk is driving behind Henry Zumbrink and Henry Zumbrink is driving behind Michael Donovan.

Accelerating out of the chicane, the Porsche of Donovan is braking, Henry Zumbrink cannot see why and is not braking, therefore Donovan is going right to the pitwall, Henry Zumbrink can avoid the before spinned Mosler. Bart van Raamsdonk is driving behind Zumbrink and in front of his view Zumbrink and Donovan are splitting up. Only after splitting up van Raamsdonk gets a clear view but then its too late; Bart van Raamsdonk hits the Mosler with +/- 130km/u.

The Mosler is flying to the left wall and unfortunately Rich Abresch is driving the Corvette on the same location, so crashes also into the Mosler with +/- 150km/u.

The Mosler and the Corvette end up next to each other. Abresch who comes out his Corvette quickly is saving Kevin Riley who is not comming out of his Mosler which sets on fire at the same time.

No drivers are really hurt and 3 race cars are totaled because of this accident.

The story is that the Mosler fell down because of a broken gearbox and was blocked in his speed. Seconds before another car hit the Mosler already and this is the reason why the Mosler was there at this location.

  • Where there any flags out oncoming the straight for the still standing Mosler?

  • We drivers didn't see any flags, I think it was too short time for the marshals. If you look at the video; after leaving the corner "Ramshoek" and before entering the chicane there are no yellow flags on the left. Entering the chicane there are (starting?) double yellow flags at the right. But if you drive with this speed you need to see the flags in front of you, not at the side of the chicane. The right side of the chicane is out of vision because of steering through the chicane to the left...

  • Tips:

  • @GPENERGYDRINK the mosler got spinned by antoher car like 5 sec before the crash. then it got sandwiched between the ford and vette

  • @Bartvanraamsdonk Yes it is difficult to keep track on what is happening at the marshals post when the field is on pace and bunched up! All you can do is concentrate right in front of you. In our series we are now considering yellow and red lights on the dash boards for instant warning, we had incidents with the pace car coming out and the whole field does not see the signs and approaches a safety car doing 100km/h on the straight! We had some close encounters!

  • Dank voor je bijdrage! Dat ging inderdaad erg snel en zoals we een week geleden op Zandvoort hebben gezien, kan het dan alle kanten op gaan. Dit is gelukkig goed afgelopen.
