This is a video made by William Schmitt using Flight Simulator X (FSX) set to the tune of "The High And The Mighty" (1954, John Wayne, Robert Stack. The video was made using a digital camera and with a shaky effect in order to make the video seem more realistic.

  • Is there a good autopilot for this plane?

  • @labelars Um, I can't say. But, I know that my dad never uses autopilot. He prefers planes that are technologically robust, but not autonomous.

  • I thought that was a real airplane, That motion is so accurate. The people who make the simulators should follow your lead

  • That would be neat if there was a camera option for something like "camera shake", then people could make some neat videos of planes screaming past, landing heavily, etc. That would be neat. But I think the Microsoft Games division is now defunct, or at least the FSX crew. :(

  • How do you get this plane for FSX?

    Please write back

  • I'm not sure exactly what websites he purchases his planes from (some companies are better than others when it comes to detail). This plane in particular is probably for FS9 running in FSX.

  • Wish there was a Connie I could park in my stable (next to the Chris Craft)---BTW, it was a DC-4 in the exterior scenes (reportedly a WWII C-54).

  • The Lockheed Connie is a beautiful plane, however the aircraft in The High and the Mighty was a Douglas DC-6.

  • That Connie is a pretty airplane...Skydived from one in California City.

  • I always wondered why the Connie had three vertical tails, and then it was explained to me that if it used only one, the surface area required for safe and stable flight would dictate the vertical tail to be so tall that most hangars back then wouldn't be able to accomodate it.

  • How beautiful!

  • The only flight simulator video on Youtube I like.

  • Nicely done . . . !

  • I emigrated to Canada from Trinidad in 1961. Spent 14 hours in one of those babies. A trip I will never forget. Trans Canada Airlines.
