I was nine years old, for Pete's sake, and first time I heard this, I was HOOKED! I became a fan of Greg Lake during his days with EL&P, and have been a fan ever since.
And anyone who is familiar with Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series of books (seven volumes, the first volume released in the mid 1980s and the last released in 2004), this song was King's inspiration for the antagonist of that series of books. The "Crimson King" was last seen trapped on a balcony of the Dark Tower.

Not sure which gay ('offensive') man we're talking about here. but early 70's, Messrs Fripp & Lake et al were/are a damn sight better than much of the modern merde. Now we're in it, 21st Schizoid Man anyone?

@bigdanbear dude... deep breath... it's the internet...
Who cares about Gay. Fuck off if you have no good taste. This song rocks. This gay man will smack u so hard if I was there. Maybe then you would like it. Knock some sense into you. Then I will take your girlfriend and treat her right. Show her how a real man acts. Intro her to my straight friends who LOVE this song. I am positive the have more of everything than you do. Hater boy. By the way. It was PERFECT in "Children of Men." Loved that movie and the awesome soundtrack. Check it out.

Absolutely mindblowing stuff. Robert Fripp and Greg Lake's vocals....priceless. This truly opened the doors for Progressive Rock. Groups like Gentle Giant,Yes, Soft Machine,Focus, early Genesis,Gong,Atomic Rooster, early Pink Floyd, and countless others. This song ,along with Close to the Edge,Supper's Ready,Echoes,Firth of Fifth, The Gates of Delerium,Larks in Toungue's aspic, and Atom heart Mother are true masterpieces.Never will their be music like this again in my opinion. Prog Rules.
