Our pals at http://www.earthineer.com teach you how they built their homemade electric car. Slides of the presentation are at: http://portal.sliderocket.com/AJTUR/ElectricCarWorkshop_2011

  • The slides on sliderocket are useless...

  • @evric2008

I've never used Slide Rocket. The presenter offered me the slides in that format, so I simply provided a link to them. I really didn't think the slides added much to the presentation. Mostly, it was just a few titles.

Just so folks know they really aren't missing much by not seeing the slides in the video.

  • great presentation only wish we could have seen more of the slides

The slides didn't look that great on video, so I thought it best to focus on the presenter instead. I know that they were talking about posting a whole bunch of info on Earthineer on this. That might include a web version of all the slides as well. I'll check with them on it.

I added a link to the slide presentation in the video description.

  • Sounds like the kind of car I could drive most days, as I live just a few miles away from my job. And, most of my brothers and sisters live a half-hour from me, so something along the lines of 40 mile range would get me to visit them, charge while there, and get me home again.

    Someday....someday! =D

  • @DanFrederiksen "you don't program the IGBTs" - that's true, but you have to program the controller to control the IGBTs and control the switching times. "probably not entirely true that AC lends itself less to regen than DC" - What's coming back from regen is AC and then you have to convert it back to DC to charge batteries, so there is an extra step involved...that's all we were saying.

  • @evric2008 Thanks....wasn't aware of that. I'll check it out.

  • @evric2008 The slides largely just followed the discussion (which was a basic overview). We reserved a lot of time for questions and answers. As I mentioned in the presentation, when we built it, we hadn't taken any photos of the process (hadn't expected to be giving a presentation), but the electric car was there on display the whole weekend, so attendees would get to see everything firsthand. For the next project (where we'll use the AC induction motor), we'll take plenty of photos.

  • Thanks Ben, The slides seem to get stuck on one from number 20 on...It's good to know I didn't miss anything. All the best.

    and you don't program IGBTs : )

  • @BenjaminNelson cool! thanks much :)
