  • the words aren't really swear words if used in the correct context. Look it up in the dictionary, see the definition, and see if what he is trying to convey with the words fits the definition. And it does. Sorry if it's that's super raw, but I have to give him kudos for not "dumbing it down" for Christians.

  • You know what is sad, I showed this song to a Christian friend of mine, and I believe all he saw in it where the swear words. He commented that this would "definitely" not be something to show in the church. He said that I believe, because of the words used like "whore" and "bastard" but seriously, the entire message was overlooked by cultural incorrectness. Mad me kinda mad, although I might have mis-presented it to him at first anyways. I think it is an amazing song.

  • This song describes each and everyon of us perfectly, we went over this song with a fine-toothed comb in philosophy and I'm so glad we did, I thank God for such an amazing Christian education

  • @Theshadowrazor the words are not used in a profane way. The literal definition fits the song very well. You're right, it's sad people have those hang ups.

  • This song is beautiful. The only reason the word "whore" offends me is because because that is exactly what I am everytime I chase the world and its desires over the perfect beautiful savior. This song super exemplifies how we are supposed to be the bride of Christ and his love is outrageous. He loves us even while we are such...well, whores. Fall in love with that guy! Hes incredible people!

  • I can see why many would take this song offensively. But, at the same time, it speaks volumes to us all! Shift your paradiem for a moment and realize that these 'bad' words are in the Bible and used for purposes of teaching...which is what this song does.

  • Writing christian songs for christians is literally preaching to the choir. Some christians like to pretend that they aren't just human like anyone on this planet, and that's truly sinful. The only thing that sets us apart should be our love, which doesn't come from us. Balking at the "no-no" words in this song is ridiculous when the message is SO needed and SO Godly. It's like eschewing the Sistine Chapel for the nudity it contains. Nuerotic false piety doesn't get anyone to God.

  • @kevin5749 The song is utterly soul quaking. But, careful with the "pantywaist" stuff. Women are powerful and brave, too. Look at the prostitute who washed Jesus' feet with her hair. As a Christian man, you have to be careful of demeaning women. You should lift us up as your sisters. Love.

  • For those of you concerned with the fact that he uses "whore" it's actually Biblical - in Exodus, when God talks about how He is a jealous God and how His people are turning to other gods, the actual term is to "whore around"

  • We've given into the social stigma of rejecting anything that the world rejects... the fact that this song is taboo because of the words 'whore' and 'bastard' disgusted me... this is why so many people find it so easy to not be a Christian. As I recall, we're suppose to 'not conform to the patterns of this world...' he doesn't use those words slanderously. Anyone who says this song is inappropriate is ignorant.

  • I guess what Derek means by saying "i am a whore, i do confess" is that he prostitutes with sin even though he's married to God.

and personally, this song gives my eyes some water.

  • Maybe the video is a little patronizing. It accentuates the wrong aspects of the song. It's a confession. When someone confesses they already know what they've done. The part that is beautiful is the forgiveness. Powerful images. Only misdirected.
