This is from the film The Black Hole, released in 1979. It has the distinction of being one of Disney's first PG rated films, due to the language and violence it portrayed. The film itself is kinda ok, but the score by John Barry (James Bond, Out of Africa, etc.) is very good. This piece plays when the crew of the Palomino fly through the black hole and experience what could best be described as traveling through Hell and Heaven (watch the film and you'll know what I mean.)
On a side note, when you listen to this piece, see if you can spot similarities with the Dances with Wolves soundtrack. There are quite a few.

Also, I have the complete soundtrack if anyone is interested in me uploading it (its never been released on CD as of this writing).

  • What's that song that plays when Vincent throws down with Max?

  • It's a piece that has not been released to my knowledge on any format. There are quite a few music cues and pieces from the film that have not been released yet, let alone the original LP on CD. If it comes down to it, and I learn how to do it, I will rip the audio from the film itself and make a complete soundtrack ala the bootleg version of the Wrath of Khan soundtrack that has floated around the net for awhile (before the legit release by FSM just recently).

  • @alucard624 Maybe us fans should go running to FSM to help us?

  • @enemyofbohemia That's not a bad idea actually. Not sure if Disney would just let them release it though. WIth the rumors of a remake of The Black Hole happening, Disney may just get around to releasing a complete version of the soundtrack. Or...they could just be butts about it and pull all copies of the film from retail like what they did with Tron :( Who knows?

  • I like 1:30 - 2:30, as well. The synthesizer in the background makes it sound like damned souls wailing into oblivion.

  • RIP Mr. Barry.

    Beautiful.

  • @miles305678 One of the *spookiest* parts of a song ever! Including on a movie soundtrack!

  • @chopperpilot5 They made it after the film came out, and based it on the film.

  • @Grim177 Haunting and harrowing, more like! At least the part near the beginning! O_O LOL

  • @miles305678 Agreed!!!

  • This oST is 'Barry in a Box' - great stuff that still does all sorts of emotional things to me. I guess my crit of Barry would be that he used a fairly small toolkit. But what a toolkit. They should remake BH for a post-Hawking generation. Sure to be better than Sunshine ;P

  • This was all released on vinly 12" 33rpm. I know this because it's one of the first albums I bought. Sadly I no longer have any vinyl as I gave it all away before I moved to america to be with my tru love of the time. Hmm - I got rid of that too (well, actually she got rid of me :) )

  • @Russell230870 I actually had that CD at one point before it was stolen. Got it when I was stationed in Germany many years back. Tracked down a copy of the LP because it was less expensive and just ripped the tracks from that to MP3 format.

  • I'll always remember the music which starts at 1:31, showin the now completely destroyed Cygnus at the very moment Reinhardt could've reliesed his dreams, they were all crushed and taken away from him as Max left him to die. I also thought for a long time when Reinhardt encountered Max at the start of the scene showin Max had eye balls revealed he was Kate's dead father, and want to continue believing that regardless of other theories. a one time great sci-fi movie which I will always adore

  • @StarwarsHalofreak Well, I don't know about you, but I always hear "Eye of the Tiger." Every. Time.
