ANCHOR:
A U.N. envoy has left Burma after making his fourth trip. But Ibrahim Gambari has had little to show for his efforts. He's been trying to get the country's military regime to include to democracy advocate Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy in the national government. Here's more on the story.
STORY:
U.N. envoy Ibrahim Gambari left Burma on Saturday after failing to meet detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Suu Kyi failed to attend a scheduled meeting last Wednesday. A few days later, two U.N. representatives accompanied by government officials went to Suu Kyi's house and tried to arrange a meeting for Gambari, but they too were rebuffed.
MRTV said they had "shouted using a bullhorn several times that the two Gambari staffers would like to see her, but she did not respond at all."
Gambari, was on his sixth visit as part of a U.N. push for reforms in Burma. He gave no reasons why Suu Kyi did not meet with him as she had done in past visits.
Suu Kyi's absence prompted speculation she was fed up with the junta's treatment of the Gambari and the lack of meaningful dialogue between her party and the regime. In a brief statement, Gambari did not mention his attempts to meet Suu Kyi but said he had "open and extensive" meetings with Prime Minister Thein Sein and other government officials. He did not have an audience with junta supremo Senior General Than Shwe either.
Rangoon-based diplomats briefed by Gambari said he urged the regime to release some 2,000 political prisoners. They also said he called for a proper dialogue with the opposition.

Unfortunately the UN are quite usless against tyrants. They only understand bullets. Tyrants only react to what they dish out, fear and death. They can't be talked into not brutalizing their people.
