Firefighters in Oregon are being "laid-off or demoted" simply because they are supervising new firefighters who can't speak English!

I am complete agree,with the comments if you are in USA YOU MUST SPEAK ENGLISH, I am a mexican immigrant, i worked really hard to learn english and a long time, but it didnt stop me to become volunteer firefighter

I have worked for the forest firefighting in Oregon and to be honest I think the more than the majority of the forest firefighters were Mexican. I did see couple other races but they either were running a engine or with the prison firefighters.

I feel really sad about what Oregon is putting up with now. During the Reagan years it was ok for an amnesty but now undocumented workers roam about like it's corrupt Mexico all disrespectful, to me even if I'm Chicano! I support any Oregon politician who will adopt a similar AZ law. Seriously. Im from Australia and i think this is really sad. Liberals continues to use the tactic of indoctrinating white guilt by pure media saturation. I'm a firefighter and this is a load of shit. I also work on the Navajo reservation in AZ. I do not speak fluently in the native tongue and I still have a job. So if you disagree with all this Oregon bullshit then move to AZ where we support SB1070. And God bless all my fellow brotherhood.

I would like to know what Oregon is going to do if they get firefighters from 10 different nations on the same crew... layoff the supervisor because they don't speak the 10 languages???? Where does the madness stop? What is wrong with requiring the foreign speaking fire fighter to speak the nations language? If the state wants to hire people who speaks a foreign language, then the burden is on the state to provide language training to supervisors.
