In a stunning upset at the 140th running of the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, NY, 4-1 odd favorite and Triple Crown contender "Big Brown" was defeated by 38-1 odd "Da'Tara." The three-year old colt was trying to become the first horse to win the Triple Crown since 1978 when "Affirmed" won the crown. In a shortened field of 9 horses, Big Brown became the first Triple Crown hopeful in history to finish in last place.

  • Kent done the right thing. The horse may not have been fit enough cause they couldn't train or another problem. The horse was forced to run possibly cause of publicity or owner/trainers wishes but he weren't ready and KD did the right thing for the horses welfare. No need to batter a horse who has no more to give and KD would know more about a horse than anyone posting on here.

  • @xxjocieridesxx

Well it was a variety of things went wrong...First of all there is the quarter crack on his hove..

Im not 100% about this but when Desormeaux was playing bumper cars at start of the race..

I think Big Brown threw a shoe. He was going a mile and a half for the first time ever in 93dg

heat..So he didn't really get a fair shot

  • what happened to big brown exactly ?

  • FUCK!BIG BROWN SHOULD HAVE PULLED A SECRATREIOT ONCE HE GOT TO THE BACK STRETCH USE THE WHIP DUDE! BIG BROWN WOULD HAVE WENT PAST THE LEAD HORSE

  • @davenlord it is perfectly Fair. That race of 1/4 mile is called BELMONT STAKES. That is all. It is some people who chose to club 3 races together and make it the triple crown.

You can always combine the Met Mile, the haskell and the travers to make a new Triplet Crown or whatever....A superhorse would be able to do it without excuses. that is all.

  • I would have felt sorrier for Big Brown's connections after this race if Dutrow hadn't been such a jerk before the race, saying that Big Brown would destroy the field. I'm almost glad he lost.

  • american horses are chemical horses not real horses and big brown is 1 of the chemical horses, paper tiger, even

  • Just almost Like Zenyatta in the 2010 Breeders Cup classic, yes she got 2nd but she didnt seem like her self

  • @bigbrownfan12345 I agree with you I should have not used the word moron. But DaTara and his handlers had great tactics that day in a monumental upset. He still won by 4 or 5 so if he got tired in the longest race of his life to call that an ugly day and an ugly race I take issue with that. Great race, great fractions and a great win for DaTara!

  • @bnegs521 Yes, I realize that, I was just noting that in the past, there are horses who have executed the mile and a half in better fashion. You make a good point, but I have to also point out that there was no need to call me a moron, it was a mere opinion of mine.
