@khav11 Yet brendan shanahan has all the cups, he even beat lindross in the finals. He might have been more skilled but he wasnt a better power forward than Shanny. Nobody was in that era. Too bad lindross couldnt handle throwing his body around so much cuz we'll never know. When detroit got Shanny they were a whole different team, the difference between him and primeau was night and day. It seemed like the whole team got tougher. Shanny had a mental toughness i think your overlooking.

Shanahan wanted to go to NY. He said he felt like he was part of Detroit's past rather than their future. Personally, I thought that was a copout. I think he wanted to go to NY to play with all the other hasbeens.

The Wings weren't able to pay him the money he'd get elsewhere. The Wings had to spread their money out so they could continue to be the premier team in the NHL for years to come. NOBODY wants to leave the Wings.

he wanted to be a wing,just wanted to leave on his own terms rather than being shown the door since detroit was goingg with a bit of a youth movement. i wish he was still in detroit
