Chapter 1: Thunder

(With Emily) "And today on E! News: Has Nick Jonas gone too far? His parents and bandmates seem to think so. Word on the street is that Nick is being escorted by his brothers to an undisclosed location to get the young superstar back on track. According to his JONAS castmates, a little R&R is just what Jonas needs. And after the break-"

Emily Grace Hunt shut off the TV in disgust.

"Some people just have more money than sense," she muttered.

Her best friend, Brooklyn Jane Crosby, rolled her eyes from across the counter. The two girls were in the kitchen of Emilys empty house in their Aerie pajamas, where theyd just finished a breakfast of cereal and fruit after a sleepover, a common occurrence between the girls.

"Not everyone has their whole careers planned out, Em," Brooklyn gently chided her friend.

"I know, B, but hes got everything! The looks, the voice, the fame Why would you chance that?"

"Like you said, some people have more money than sense," Brooklyn shrugged. Then a thought occurred to her. "Hey! Maybe theyll send the boys here!"

Emily stood and distributed her cereal bowl to the dishwasher, then turned to her friend and put a manicured hand on her hip. "Please. No one even knows about Linnings. Were not even on the map, hardly. Theres no way theyd send a big, huge superstar and his big huge superstar brothers here. Besides, Im pretty sure our small town wouldnt fit his big ego."

"Theres always room to expand. We do live by the ocean, you know," Brooklyn defended herself with a smile. "Besides, you never know. It could happen!"

"Yeah, sure. In your dreams," Emily teased, tossing the dishtowel at her friend. ************************************

(With Nick) "Are you kidding me?!" 17-year-old Nicholas Jerry Jonas yelled at his older brothers. "You're sending me away?"

"No, were going with you," Kevin Jonas corrected his brother.

"Yeah," Joseph Adam Jonas piped up. "Think of it as a vacation."

"Oh, yeah. An incredible little place that no ones even heard of," the younger of the three boys scoffed, rolling his eyes.

"Some people have heard of Linnings," Kevin argued.

"Whatever," Nick replied angrily. "I cant believe you guys are doing this to me."

"Look," Joe said seriously. "Were renting a really nice house on the beach, where the paparazzi will never find us, and where you are going to get a serious attitude adjustment. Got it?"

"You need this, man. We dont even know who you are anymore," Kevin said more gently. "Try a little R&R, a little sun, some fresh air. Let go of LA for a little while. Its only one summer of your life."

"Yeah, a summer we could spend touring and making money," Nick shot back.

"Thats it!" Kevin threw up is hands in exasperation. "Im done. Youre going, and thats that. Start packing. We leave in four hours."

With that, the eldest Jonas brother stalked out of the room, slamming the door shut behind him. Joe, who was sitting next to his younger brother on the leather couch, turned to watch him leave, surprised. Kevin never got angry. He looked to his other brother, who was looking at his phone.

"Whats his problem?" he muttered, trading his phone for a magazine.

Joe stared at him. Seriously? he thought. "You!" he cried, finally leaving the room as well.

"Jealous," the 17-year-old said under his breath, flipping through the magazine, looking for any signs of himself. ******************************************
