Train 1 - 7:39 A.M.
L159 starts off the morning, cruising west under a beautiful winter sunrise. A quartet of aging Dash 8's are in chrarge, 3 of them being ex-Conrail units.

Port Newark, NJ - Syracuse, NY

Train 2 - 8:51 A.M.
After a long silence, Amtrak 280 comes east and stops at the platform on time, with a very friendly crew. P32AC-DM #716 leads it.

Train 3 - 9:40 A.M.
Almost another hour passes, and things suddenly pick up. Q163 heads west with a cool EMD duo going all out to keep this huge train moving.

Train 4 - 9:47 A.M.
Shortly after, loaded ethanol train K684 cruises east with a another friendly engineer.

Only a couple of minutes later is the K401, westbound unit ethanol empties.

Train 6 - 10:33 A.M.
K531, a loaded unit Bauxite train, heads west with another HLCX SD40-2 in the lashup.

Train 7 - 10:50 A.M.
X017 lite engines go west on track 2 having won the race against Amtrak 63 by about a half mile.

Train 8 - 10:51 A.M.
Amtrak 63, the westbound Maple Leaf, arrives in Amsterdam only a few minutes late with P42DC #157 doing the honors.

  • @FGLK1751: Thanks, Scott, it's pretty sad that the classic NYC signals are slowly fading away into railroad history. This spot just isn't the same without that signal bridge.

  • Great Video! Nice catch on the bauxite train, I caught one of them back in the summer and it had a bunch of fallen flag hoppers as well.

  • Nice job, I'm liking that sunrise shot.

  • The trains sure do bounce over on that section of track. When CSX X017 flies over that hump in the track, the last engine which is the C40-8W you can really see the how the axles and bearing really sprung.
