  • is it ever big enough to be surfable? severn works ;-)

  • Sometimes but the Runcorn estuary and Fiddler's ferry bends are so wide the height isn't consistent. Besides, you may trip over an old XR2 or shopping trolley!

  • Life, goes on day after day.

  • what a bore

  • A few years ago a dip in here would be instant death, what with all the pollution, but now they've "cleaned it up" that is to say most of the industry has gone!

  • is there lots of debri in that river I like to surf in dodgey places

  • I got the tidal info from Laver tide charts. The Mersey only has a bore if the low tide is below 1m and high tide above 9m at Alfred dock, Liverpool. Of course this only occurs at a full moon or new moon and is between 20 & 40 mins earlier than high tide!

  • I have a rather unusual training regime for running, and since 2002, sometimes go into Estuaries to RUN or RACE the incoming tidal bore!

Estuaries I've already ran the incoming tide include my local one, the Duddon, as well as Arnside, which has a very fast bore, yet, the Solway is awesome!

Last August there was a 2ft bore travelling at my 10km race pace (about 6-7mph) in both channels.

The other estuaries above, though not ran in yet, due to their locations near Morecambe Bay, do get bores.

  • Where do you get that information from ? I am looking to capture footage of tidal bores I frequently see the severn bore but want to see other uk bores.

  • A good place for a good tidal bore is the following NW and Cumbria locations:

    Ribble Estuary (towards Preston)

    Wyre Estuary (Fleetwood coming inland)

    Lune Estuary (Glasson to Lancaster)

    Kent Estuary (Arnside especially!)

Leven Estuary (S Ulverston to Greenodd)

Duddon Estuary (N Askam to Angerton)

Moricambe Bay (N Skinburness/ Anthorn in NW Cumbria) and

The Solway Bore from Bowness-on-Solway in the Eden channel to Drumburgh, as well as the Esk channel Torduff point to M74 bridge, Gretna

  • i agree. despite being a keen bore surfer, im almost tempted to agree "surfer free days" to keep spectators happy

  • Nice one, that's a first fo me seeing that.

    Keep them coming.
