Music journalist and author Will Hodgkinson interviews singer-songwriter David Gray. Although Gray released his first album in 1993, he did not receive worldwide recognition until his 1999 album White Ladder catapulted him to fame and fortune. With seven albums under his belt, Gray has won two Ivor Novello Awards for songwriting and received a Grammy nomination. Here he describes what inspired him to write the haunting songs, This Year's Love, The One I love, You're The World To Me and Breathe, before giving an exclusive performance of them.

    Now I'm leaking life darling

That cut me to the quick.

  • Since I make music and write own songs, I always pay attention to create verses, which rhyme, but he is definetly a class apart. Damn good Lyricist.

  • So much better acoustic! Great talent, it's a shame he's been somewhat under-rated in recent years. He also looks like Dominic Monaghan from Lost!

  • @tommoody1609 It'd be too dangerous; if you look him in the eye you'll fall in love, males and females alike.

Full sheet music at the below link. I always tried to get my (EX) Husband to learn this song...heh, guess that was a red flag that he wouldn't even after he knew what it means to me. Enjoy!

try music notes dot com. they've got all the sheet music you'd ever want!

  • Anyone else here a slight variation in the chords he is playing in the second verse of the one I love? It's almost like there is a second player. Anyone know the chords he is using? are they different on the second verse?

  • He's certainly a magnificent songwriter, clinical yet beautifully soulful, a hugely difficult combination for anybody who's ever tried to write music.

  • Can't imagine what it's like to sit in Will Hodgekinson's place- I think i'd be a jibbering wreck if he sang that close... in a good way obviously!
