  • Welsh Sheepdogs are not Border Collies! They are a different breed with their own distinct points and a different way of working than the Border Collie.

  • this stuff makes me wanna leave the city and live on a farm.

  • No, there is no mandatory ratio, the red bitch in this clip can handle one sheep (or cow) on it's own (far harder than a bigger flock) and had dealt with up to 1000 head without another dog to help. But big numbers on a regular basis require the dog to work very hard and this shortens their life. Good working dogs are usually highly valued by their owners, and because of this you will find people with big flocks using a team to deal with them.

  • is there like a mandatory ratio of dog to sheep in orderfor it to work?

  • Thanks for putting this video up for all to see. I find this kind of work really appropriate and would like to see dogs who handle stock like this to keep doing it!

I wish all of you who are working with this breed continued success with preserving and maintaining this wonderful breed.

Hi Ad, Well bearing in mind our discussion on the relevance of the 'Hillman' soubriquet, she sure looks like the type that John Davies refers to as a Hillman doesn't she? So, I'd say yes. Trust you're all well. Looking forward to seeing my dogs on the site.

  • @TudorGDavies Do you think she is a Hillman? I always thought she looks like one.

  • they are actually too completely different and ditinct breeds from completely seperate parts of britain

  • Whoa! A Welsh collie is VERY different to a border. My family has worked both. Welsh collies look and work differently. Look up Cymdeithas Cwn Bugeill Cymru (or Welsh Sheepdog Society) and find out more. Adelineshackles: Is that a Hillman you have there?

  • Welsh Sheepdogs are basically a Border Collie. We got a Border Collie who actually turned out to be a Welsh Sheepdog. Wanna see him? Type in Welsh Sheepdog on Wikipedia and the first photo is him.
