Do you remember how country music sounded in the 1940s and 1950s? It was great!
Daisy Mae and Old Brother Charlie were popular country music performers starting back in the early 1940s and lasting well into the 1960s. They were early members of Renfro Valley, a CBS radio favorite, and later performed on radio and television in places like Charlotte and Tampa. Their 1-hour TV show "The Home Folks" in the Tampa area was an immediate hit.
Here is a collection of short clips from many of their 78-rpm and 45-rpm records, accompanied by some photos of them and some old postcards of Tampa during the years that they lived and performed there.
Thankfully, most of these songs are available on the Cattle CD titled "The Pure Hillbilly Sound of Daisy Mae & Old Brother Charlie".
Yes, the "classic country" from those days was great music, and Daisy Mae and Old Brother Charlie were among the best. Thanks for your comment, xravexgirlxangelx!
